New year, new hope, for NFL fans all over the world, the offseason is an occasion for their team to improve on their previous year record. We all think that we might be a piece away from being able to compete or winning it all comes February. With that being said, one of the most important days in the offseason is the draft. General managers from all 32 teams will be watching closely and making decisions that will affect the future of young men who have been waiting for this day their whole life. There’s been a lot of movement prior to the draft with the Los Angeles Rams acquiring the first pick from the Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles going up to number two after trading with the Browns.
Usually, when you put your future on the line by trading a plethora of picks to get up to the number 1 or 2 spot, it’s because you’re planning on drafting an impact player that is going to be making a difference from day one. In this particular case, I believe that the Los Angeles Rams will select with the number one overall pick, the California product, Jared Goff. Although Goff may not be the most talented player in the draft (that honor should go to Jalen Ramsey out of Florida State), he is exactly what Los Angeles needs right now, a cool, calm and collected kid out of California to go along with Todd Gurley. Even though Los Angeles is not expected to compete right away in the extremely competitive NFC West, this pick could be a step in the right direction, especially if the offensive line can keep him upright in what should be a heavy run offense. Although the mobility of Carson Wentz is very intriguing in regards to the possibilities with the play-action, I believe that the deep ball accuracy and the leadership qualities of Goff might be too good to overlook at this point for the Rams.
